Use RTV on thermostat cover

Got the thermostat coming, gasket (4 bolts) is a problem. I should be able to RTV it, right?

Been using RTV on my 30 hp Mariner for 8 years now, with no problems. I'd use the correct gasket if I could find one - but, for my '82 it's not easy.

Making gaskets isn't that hard, the hard part is getting the right gasket material, It's pretty old fashioned. When you use RTV get the good stuff, like Permatex RTV Form-A-Gasket., not the bathroom stuff. On some uses, the gasket material thickness is part of the design, so you have to be careful.
