So I am looking at upgrading to a 1994 Crownline...its an upgrade for our family anyway...the boat is about 3-4 hours from me so a little hard to keep running back and fourth to look at it. The owner seems to be very truthfull about the boat and it looks very clean and well maintained. He is saying that the area back by the motor has gotton a little "soft" I dont know if its near the motor mounts or not, he is suppose to be giving me more info on that. Also a couple of small area behind each seat has done the same thing. I looked at the same year and size of boat here in town and looks like the floor, behind the seats anyway, did the same thing. Are Crownlines known for doing this and would be a big deal to reapir?

All older glass boats with wooden decks and/or stringers are prone to rot if exposed to the elements for any length of time. It is repairable but it is a BIG job. Unless the boat is extremely cheap, I'd keep looking.

I have a 94 crownline 196 BR it is doing the same thing right in front of the engine cover its a bit soft, not rotted out fall thru soft but a bit springy. Part of the problem is that the gas tank is right there so the ply that makes up the deck has to span a bigger area than it normally would thus making for a soft spot tright there. Mine doesn't have the "sport" seating its the more conventional back to back fronts with a engine box and jump seats on either side. The models with the sport seating are less prone to this as the rear bench seat comes further in from the stern and covers more of the tank. Other than that little thing I love mine it has the Merc 350 mag and is a little rocket ship with the right prop. Most of my boating is dedicated to watersports so I generally use a merc hi five prop, pulling two slalom skiers out is no problem with that prop and I can still hit 40 mph at around 4100 rpm. You really should water test it prior to buying it though, huge difference in running one in the driveway on muffs or actually lake testing.
