Used Doghouse?

The previous owner was a Home builder and built a cedar doghouse for the i/o merc cruiser I now own.
The freakin thing is heavy! On the good side it does keep the sound down. I would say it weighs 40 to 50 lbs. I would think less weight would lead to a speedier boat etc. Anyway is it hard to find used stirdy dog houses that are much lighter? Is it worth the trouble? I still want it to run quiet. It doesn't have to be as quiet as is now.
I have had the boat for 5 years but have been mostly focused on the mechanical aspects until now

I doubt a few pounds lighter will make that much difference in speed. You may get lucky searching for a lighter one but hardly worth the bother if you are otherwise satisfied with what you have.

Getting rid of wet foam would be a better way to shed some extra pounds.

The Doghouse I remove from my boat, which was factory installed probaly weighs 40 lbs, its made of 1/2" plywood with foam and vinyl covering. not much to be gained unless you go carbon fiber........lol kinda costly though

i built one out of 1/4" plywood and used aluminum angle for the frame work, glued pink foam insulation inside, a upolstered outside. very light. worked great. i ran and couple angle across the top so it could with stand the weight of someone on top.
