Newbie at owning a boat. (1yr)
I have a 90' Wellcraft 20.5 ft V-steplift, what I have on my boat now, (that does not run), is a 87 or 88 175 Johnson VRO. I'm thinking of purchasing a 89' 200 Johnson V6 for my boat. (1) How do I determine if this motor will bolt up to my boat? (2) it looks like it has a long shaft, is this OK, or does it matter? (3) how do I determine if it is a FICHT motor? (4) it has the tilt control on the motor itself, can it be switched to the control handle without much trouble?

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Tilt control on the motor means it will have the electrics up to the interior controls also...it's a convenience switch so you don't have to reach into the boat to raise or lower the motor.

The shaft length does matter, you need to match up the length of the motor to the transom on your boat. 15" transom, short shaft, 20" transom, long shaft.

Ficht motors usually have a label on the cowel saying that it's a Ficht motor. Beyond that, I'm not sure as I'm not an expert with Johnsons.

An 89 200hp should have the same bolt hole patter as the VRO you have now, so you shouldn't have any issues bolting it up. ( might get lucky and be able to use the control box and wiring you already have in the boat ).

There were no Ficht motors in 89.

The bolt pattern is the same.

The trim controls are designed to be used at the helm (by the steering wheel) and should be part of the control box. If your control box isn't equiped with a switch you can easily mount one on the dash.

Check the length of the shaft and make sure it matches what you currently have.
