I recently bought a 14ft smokercraft with a 15hp evenrude the motor is 10 to 15 years old and runs great. What type of maintenance should I do? how often should I change lower gear oil? to keep it running great. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
thanks Kirk, Seattle WA

I change the lower end oil every fall before i put away for winter and again at mid season i do a lot of use. you should change waterpump impella you dont know last time it was done. decarbon motor check compression for future reference then if you run into a problem you can check back. also buy a repair manual it will pay for itself over and over

rebuilding the carbs is also a good idea, and then about every 3 years after that. Impeller is a must though as stated.

Check compression, replace whatever water pump related items that you do not know the age of, change plugs, change lower unit oil, rebuild carbs and you are good to go.

I don't believe in rebuilding carbs just because. If you are having an issue then okay, but just to do it every three years no imo. If you use good fuel and stabil when storing they will last a long time without a rebuild.
