I am fixing up a well used 12' gamefisher trihull (fiberglass) and I have a few questions about painting it after I do some hull repair.I will be painting below the water line and I was thinking about hitting it wit a universal primer and then topcoating it with bedliner. I have seen it done on the linex site and am thinking it would do for what i need. I am going to be using this boat in a small stream near my home and a local lake while fishing for musky...... any thoughts. I am fixing it up and creating some casting decks and storage areas and I will be posting some pics throughout the process. Thanks for the imput.

Get into a friends pickup, then fall to your bare knee or elbow onto the bedliner. Now, go get a bandaid or wound dressing.

That's why bedliner isn't used in boats :D

being in the same (literally) boat as you, I'm looking to paint my glass gamefisher too. I thought about adding some decks, but want to see how stabil the boat is first before spending time & money on decks.

Please keep us posted.

I used Herculine (SP) in my boat went on very easy and I love the results..as for getting scraped by it I just hit it down with an air sander very lightly and it is still non-slip but a little smoother on bare feet, arms etc.. Zet you can get it in grey color too

Google durabek and look at what that is. They have colors for marine applications too

From what I read in your question..your only using this on your hull/bottom ? If so then rhino line if you want to..

dunno why..but if thats all you have to work with ( cost, availability .. etc. ).

Re: using bedliner on a fiberglass hull

I am only using it on the bottom of the hull of the boat on the top I am looking into rustoleum (sp) for above the waterline. I don't need it to look pretty, and honestly, I bought the boat for $20 and just want to make a highly functional reliable boat that has minimum maintence and if you have ever tried to get bedliner off well, good luck. I work at a paint shop and have been checking with our suppliers and salesmen as well as my bed liner guy and we are thinking it would be a pretty good application for a good pricetag. Who knows! I will post as it goes. As for the casting decks, I am making them the same height as the seats because I have a friend who has the same boat and he stands and fishes from them with out a problem.

Take care,

Jacob

The product is DURABAK, thats why you coulndt find it - Here's the link

http://www.nonslipcoating.com/marine.htm

Its not realy meant to be used (As far as I can tell) for below water line applications, its more for decking

Escapade, check out the following link for durabak. http://www.nonslipcoating.com/ also check out the applications on the rhino linings site http://www.rhinolinings.com/applications/marine/boat_detail. These are what brought the idea to my mind but I wanted to see if anyone else out there had tried it and how it worked thats all. I know that we tried getting some liner off of the insider of a street sweeper tank and we gave up and we were using a sandblaster and some heavy grit!

Re: using bedliner on a fiberglass hull

By the way, does anyone else here that has a fiberglass gamefisher get the feeling that their transom flexs too much???

I just put a 7.5 hp motor on the back of mine & seems like the transom flexs alittle more from the added weight - I went from 3 hp to 7.5 hp. Its not so much the transom itself as the whole rear of the boat.

Anyone else have a similar issue?
