Using different carbs for more HP?

Hi All,
I have been reading forums today, and I was looking at how to increase power to my 140 evinrude. I stumbled across an article on another site through Google about someone having a heavy boat and changed his carbs from the 200 he has to a larger hp model. Said all looked and worked fine with a very noticeable difference. Is it really that simple to do this. I searched on here for a while, but I guess I am either not using the correct terminology or wrong words to find it. If it is possible should I be changing heads as well for more compression? I would love to just use a 200hp set of carbs on mine. That would be awesome!

I'm not sure what year you have, but my '80 140 is a 4 cyl and the 200's are 6cyl. For sure you wouldn't want to change the idle jets. I have no idea if it would work on the top end. It sounds to me like it would be quite a stretch.

Keep the mtr tuned and well maintained and run it. Unless you got big $$$$$$ , then go for it. Alot envolved to make a real difference in performance.

You know what! I totally inserted foot in mouth. Yea mine is a 4 cyl, and 150 -200 are 6cyl. wouldnt work I got caught up in the whole 200hp for the price of used carbs. I am sorry.

Not to worry. You're not the first and won't be the last. I think it's a dream we've all had at one time or another. I've come to realize they are tuned about as close as they can be. Other than the early 9.9/15's there's not much you can do with just carbs.

Unless, that is, you want to turn a 70 into a gas guzzling 50!

I am sure you are right about that bro. For a second I was seeing 45mph on a deckboat .....hahahahahaha maybe not a good idea after all!
