So i Just bought the Lowrance 68 C GPS/Fishfinder combo. And I realized, that If I could have a second plug, that would plug into the back of the unit, and hook up a power and ground wire to the truck, the GPS would work in the truck. How it works for the boat it, the wire comes off the transducer, and hook up to the unit, and comming out of the back of the wire at the plug is 2 power wires for the unit.

If i could just get power in the Truck, I would have a GPS for the road. But I don't know how much road detail the map has.

Does Lowrance offer road maps to be uploaded to their fishfinders?

It's like you say . . . probably not a lot of chips showing road detail since it's made for boating. Call Garmins customer service to see what's available.

Or with a lot less effort I see the TomTom One units (3rd generation yet)
on various websites from time to time refurbished for $79 (they come with the same warranty as new). I've bought several for my family members with no issues.

A great little unit with a nice sized screen. This way you could always have it with you in your glove box for the times when you really need it.

I do switch my Sirius radio from boat to car because I don't want to pay another $8.00 or so a month for a second subscription.

I bought an extra antenna and another cig plug for power. Having satellite radio is great on my boat because the lakes I frequent are surrounded by high mountains and there is either poor or no FM reception.

My Sirius unit was only $50 with a $50 rebate which I bought at Pep Boys a few years ago, but I need to be careful because it's not water proof.

Amazing that their stock even after the XM merger is only a few cents a share and it is such a great service to have crystal clear static free tunes on board with "no" commercials for about 41 cents a day for both my car and boat by swapping the unit back and forth.

Under that grey towel towards the bow is a porta potty. Now with the radio, GPS/Fish finder I never have to leave the boat anymore. When I'm hungry, I just order Chinese food and have it delivered to my boat :D

I know the GPS has the bigger roads in it, if found where i was when i first turned it on, 5 miles from the water. I just don't know about back roads.

I have an iFinder and a LMS-522c. I can use the topo maps (Canada Mapcreate) that I bought for the iFinder in the gps.

Use them all the time as the Navionics chip for Canada is missing most of the lakes in my area and the topo at least gives me shore detail.
