I am planning a trip to the Keys and thinking about taking my boat. I have a 185 with a Mercury 125. Does anyone have any advice about using my boat in the saltwater.

Wash and flush. As soon as the boat comes out of the salt water spend some time washing off all the salt. Flush the motor with clear fresh water for several minutes. As soon as I got home I would take the boat to a lake or river and have a brief outing (unless you have time for a full day on the water, that's always better). Boating in fresh water will flush and rinse places you might not get with a hose.

I have a 1996 V16 with a 40 hp... I trailer it. 50 -50 Freshwater and Saltwater. Without a floor it is a little bit loud, but hangs in there. I do have about 5 leaky rivets after 10 years and about 500 hours.
