V-4 lower unit swap standard to commercial V-4

I have bought a 94 Evinrude 120 V-4 (looper) with bad gears due to water intrusion, but I fished the boat w/owner several times prior to failure and it ran strong, so I bought it as a fixer-upper. Anyone know if a 92 Evinrude commercial V-4 100hp lower unit w/same length shaft will swap? Looks like the gearcase would bolt up exactly, and I know I'd have to re-prop and maybe order a different shift rod, but I didn't know if the difference in 1.86/1 ratio (commercial) would give me trouble since the standard ratio was 2/1.
Thanks... awsome site, just found it!

If that link does not work, try copying this to your browser without the quotation marks:

8)Thanks for the link guys... it helped me figure out that the commercial gearcase I found for sale has to be a 1995-1997 based on the diagrams, not a 92. The shape of the gearcase and the plastic water intake screen make it a 95-97. Midsections have different part nos, but it still looks like it'll bolt up. Still not sure if it'll work otherwise. So, the new question is; Anyone know if a 95-97 commercial 100 lower will be a suitable replacement for a 94 120 (E120TLER) V-4 - if I re-prop & change shift rods? I sure do like the idea of the beefier gears & such.

Mankato,

In the BRP site, look at the 1992 HP listings. You'll see a 125 HP, that is a COMMERCIAL. Check the cross references on parts there.
