The short answer is Yes,.....
But,....
The Real Answer is Very Long......

Just to start things off,... I'll mention that the Vintage of the Block is very important,....

oh, and the camshaft will likely need to be replaced, or you may never get on plane. Now if you want to put in a truck or RV 350 instead of the 305 you would be talkin. All your 305 stuff would swap right over and you would have more power :).

Re: V-8 motor swap?

That is exactly what I was thinking! I have an '87 chevy g-20 van with 350.I heard something about '86 being a crossover year for the rear crank seals. Will this motor work with my drive system or do I need to change flywheel? I assume I will need to change it over to carburation(its tbi) cuz of nowhere to install O2 sensor:(. I guess I will also have to install brass plugs and stainless head gaskets as well. Will the stock cam in the 350 be ok or should I go aftermarket? I am trying to do the mental checklist in my head b4 begining.Have I missed anything??? Thanx to all...any suggestions welcome.

You can get a O2 sensor that fakes out the computer. I bought one a few years back costing about 180 bucks for one.

Re: V-8 motor swap?

Does anyone know if I can use a newer 350 with this stringer outdrive(newer than '85)?? What is the difference between the motors,?I was told different mainseals(newer is 1 piece?).Why is that an issue if it is? Other issues?? Thanx all!

Re: V-8 motor swap?

The difference is that they changed the way they were balanced. The newer style is externally balanced.

The newer style (1 piece main seal) needs a different coupler (the triangle mount style), in order to mount up, but no guarantees that it will work.

I've got a pre-86 block as well, and considered going with a newer style, but I decided it wasn't worth the cost. I'm thinking that if I ever run across some Vortec Heads for cheap, I can just bolt 'em on.
