Re: V Belt Problem

Rusty pulleys will eat up belts very quickly. it will grind the sides down on the belts like sandpaper, until the belt is so narrow it can not work any longer.
Either replace them, or remove them sand them smooth, then repaint (several coats) and allow to dry overnight at a minimum. Then your belts will last.

Re: V Belt Problem

Thanks Don, I think the problem was two fold. Firstly the belt that was originally fitted does not appear to be the right one as its profile is somewhat different to the one I received from the suppliers. I think the pully on the alternator may be the problem as it is quite rusty. The other two pulleys are new when I had the engine rebuilt. Re sanding and painting the pulley, any particular paint I should be using?
Thanks

I like to use RustOleum. Takes longer to dry, but lasts on the pulleys much longer.
