Am having trouble removing the elect./mech. tilt housing on an '85 era 280 outdrive. Have the Clymer manual which says to remove 2 allen hd. bolts from base, after putting drive all the way down, and then lift. It appears to be frozen or welded in place. Drive is very slow going up or down and one boater said it may be a bent worm screw so wanted to extract it and look. Motor seems to run quiet and cool. The dimwit I bought the boat from had actually used some steel type bondo putty to hold the #4 plug in (AQ125) instead of rethreading it so am afraid he may have done something stupid here as well. Any ideas on getting this out without the use of a cutting torch or recip. saw would be appreciated.
