v150 water pump baseplate removal ?

Any poniters on how to get it off without damaging it? And do I really need to take it off when doing a water pump overhaul! The water pump kit has all the seals so I'm thinking I should replace all of them while it's apart!!

The base plate is pressed in around the drive shaft and is sealed with about a 2 inch o-ring. The seal is tight and the base plate doesn't come out or go in easily. However, even pressure from all angles should ease it out. So like Justintime said, use a chisel or something and work your way around the baseplate in a circular motion. Once it moves just a little move onto the next position and repeat until it's completely removed.

On the installation you'll need to tighten the nuts in a circular pattern as well. The reason being is that the base plate will not be sealed in until all the nuts are tightened (there's no way you can just press it into place with your hand). So as you tighten the nuts work in small increments again in a circular motion. This will keep the baseplate from tilting up on its side and crimping your o-ring.

Good luck.
