I would sure love to know the answer to this one, I also have a 150 1979 merc, inline 6 with the identical problems., I have rebulit the carbs,fuel pump messed with it myself for 2 weeks.
Brought it to shop. They compression checked,tested ignition , they cannot find a thing wrong. Funny thing is,,, sometimes it will run good.

Getting ready just to junk it

I do not see that you have tested the stator with a DVA meter.

The stator on the V-6 has two sets of windings, low speed and high speed, failing insulation on the high speed winding intermittently shorts and fails to produce adequate voltage for good ignition and the engine fails to accelerate.

PROVE THE FAULT before you spend $$$$$, there is NO RETURN on electrical parts.

id hate to give bad advice but i was having the same exact problems on a 88 150 mariner and it turned out to be failing power packs..(has 2) they would work intermittently and then finally they gave out..
