V4 140 Crossflow Thermostat

I am rebuilding a 1982 140 Johnson the thermostat is missing. Should I replace it or run without it? The motor will be used in southeast Texas.

Replace ... it is there for a reason.

No matter where your motor will be used, fit the correct thermostat.
