Re: V4 crossflow differences

I've come across a couple other threads in here that suggested the (Q)L77JC4 was an acceptable alternate for that motor, but I'm not an expert. I expect my dealer is going to put whatever the right plugs for it are in it when they do the tuneup.

The (Q)L77JC4's are fine for that motor, no problem. Don't assume the dealer will put the right ones in. Double check and make sure he uses Champion only.

Mr. Hadley, will the ...JC4's change performance in any way - better/worse idling for example?

Re: V4 crossflow differences

The L77JC4s are good all-around plugs and in my experience idle better than surface gap plugs. The surface gap plugs are generally recommended for sustained high speed operation...

- Scott

Thanks Scott, I may try the ...JC4s. I'm trying to improve the idle somewhat on mine - gap em at .040 I suppose?

Well you OMC guys, Merc has used surface gap for as long as I can remember so there must be something to them....using them now and at least back to '89 (my last engine).

Mark

Nobody is saying you can't use them in an E/J. I've just never seen an advantage and they're expensive. And you can't compare a Merc ignition system to an OMC. It's no secret the Merc ignition is hotter.
