v4 omc prop

I have a 1990 v-4 115 with a stock omc alum prop.The prop has a platic ring at the end of it.What does this plastic ring do ? thanks

If the plastic ring you are talking about is where the prop meets the lower unit,you are probably referring to a weed guard(might not be correct name)that prevents weeds from getting sucked in and jamming behind the prop.It justs snaps in before the prop is installed.Fabulous device that can be added when prop has smaller diameter than the lower unit.

hello,plastic ring is on the exhaust side of the the prop.

Hi Boatright.<br />The plastic ring at the rear of the prop is known as the Diffuser ring, its there to extend the exhaust gas far enough aft to prevent the exhaust gasses from ventalating the prop.
