What were the changes or differences between the different era V4 motors, primarily the early 70's, mid 70's and then the early 80's motors?
What parts interchange? Are the mid sections or lower units the same.
Were these all very different motors when it comes to parts or were they just minor changes?
I have been looking for a good used motor for my one boat, but keep finding various different years, all of which are from different eras. Was there a point where the main design changed?
My main concern is with the tilt and trim and bracket styles. I have plenty of later styel tilt/trim units and brackets, but all those motors are blown up. I have several mid 70's motors that run fine yet have no tilt or trim. I also have a near new 1970 power head that needs a home as well, but from what I am told it's of no use on the later motors?
Did anyone ever make a parts interchange book for outboards as they do for automotive parts?
