Hey old mercs: I understand the love. I do Chryslers and if ever there was an underdog, there you have it.

BTW: Chrysler seemed to outsource some Merc. parts OR they both outsourced from the same contractor. I have noticed some of the same bearings and other parts. AND, Merc did have a better ignition system: many Chrysler racers converted to Merc ignition on their blocks.

And---I was just a kid, but if my memory serves me, I seem to remember radio and tv ads with Merc. being the first manufacturer to break the 100 HP barrier. That engine was a big deal. It was the inline six. I don't doubt that OMC was right behind though because those were the days of more HP in everything.

While there's so much expertise and history going on here....why does Merc make a 60 degree V6 in there higher HP's, like the 250/3.0L and OMC always make a 90 degree in those same higher HP's? Not talking about the 60 degree OMC 150's and 175's, but the 200 and up 90 degree engines.

Rule #12:please do not post to threads that have been inactive for more than 3 months UN-LESS you are the original poster. We have very active forums and any thread that remains inactive for that long should be considered "dead". It is especially confusing when there is an entirely new question posted to an old thread. This is considered a hijack. Please start a new thread of your own.
