Longshanks, check E-Bay. Telflex makes a good high quality guage and you should be able to pick up a kit at a fraction of the cost of the Merc kit.
The guages actually work off of air pressure, the hose does not fill up w/water, nor does the guage.
I think I paid about $20+ shipping for my Telflex kit on E-Bay

thanks for this reply gss. I will have a look-see. I am assuming that a water pressure guage should pretty much work with any outboard, and could be hooked up similarly to how Silvertip describes?
