V8's, mud & way too much testosterone

[colour=blue]We got this little event in our area that occurs twice a year, it's called the 'Victorian Winch Challenge'. This year my cousin entered a vehicle, a 1994 patrol, 350 EFI auto with dual transfer cases. Unfortunetly, he crashed out on the first day (put a shock absorber through his hood!).

I took plenty of pics with my phone camera but they are all carp so I've got these from the official website. These ones are from last year because they haven't had time to post the new ones yet, the event ended last night. The vehicles are the same ones I saw yesterday and the terrain is identical.

The highlight of the weekend was a suzuki stockman with an SBC that sounded awesome, he also won overall 1st.

What exactly is a Patrol? It looks like it should be able to get around quite handily.

[colour=blue]This is a Nissan Patrol with it's factory clothing. It is the bigger brother of the Pathfinder. Ford rebadged this model as a 'Maverick'.

Heh, rednecks are everywhere! Expensive hobby I bet. I wouldn't mind having an old '72 Ford Bronco fixed up like that some day.

This is the Pathfinder's "bigger brother" in the US, called an Armada. Do you get these in Oz?

[colour=blue]Ron, that's a custom made ROPS (roll over protection system) compliant cage.

Kevin, never seen that model downunder, looks like a beast! The patrol in the picture is a 1994 model, I'll post a pic of a 2006 model - most of them are turbo diesels now but a 4.5L gas guzzler is available, no V8's in the line up unless you fit it yourself.

A neighbor o mine built this little toy, he also races it at his place with a bunch of other guys that are into four wheeling it. In the summer he sponsors mud races at his business/property custom deferential.

[colour=blue]Yep, extra low low. It's also an automatic which should be interesting. Some say it's a bad idea, some say it's a good idea. Personally, I think it would be an advantage over a manual. Mud and clutch/pressure plates don't mix.

I think we did have the Patrol, we just didn't know it...

That's a Patrol/Safari(Nissan), and a Montero/Pajero(Mitsu)

But the 2 vehicles look very similiar. Don't know if Mitsu and Nissan got together on those or not, but I know we have had the Montero over here.
