validate my compression please

'82 35hp evinrude.

about 143# cyl 1
about 150# cyl 2.

(measured about 30 minutes after coming out of the water)

The book says to validate "high" compression. "high" is kinda arbitrary to me!

Had it out for a few hours today. After running at WOT for about 15-20 minutes (crossing lake coming back from fishing) and decreasing speed to maybe trolling speed approaching the dock I noticed the exhaust ports were smoking pretty heavily. It was white smoke. It does not really smoke at WOT that I can tell. Any ideas? Would a patch or a pill help my motor stop smoking? I'm concerned about her health

sounds healthy to me. when was your last impeller change? thermostat?

Those compression numbers sre just fine. The white smoke is not a worry. You may want to run a can of seafoam through her. Just to keep the fuel system clean and gum free.

Don't know when the last impeller change was. The previous owner said he just replaced it but I ordered a water pump rebuild kit anyway (better safe then stranded). Same on the Tstat.

What is the temp of the motor? If the air is cool outside, the white smoke is usually water vapor from the exhaust condensing. If the motor is not getting hot, I would not worry about it.

And yes, change the impeller.

the air was darn right COLD. The motor did feel hot.

You could not have put it better! "Better safe than stranded" has been the mantra of those of us who fish offshore for as long as I can remember.
