Re: Value of a Boat

I would go to
http://www.classicglastron.com/

Everything you want to know about Glastron boats. They have a message board just for Glastron.

After that, I'd say the boat is worth whatever some will pay right now. To me sight unseen, and not having any details regarding condition, it is worth a few hundred dollars. That is what I'd pay. That makes as much sense as asking what a boat is worth without giving details. Sometimes with old boats you can get good money, sometimes not. Not that many collectors for boats. Most want usable boats that can ski or fish.

Go to the website and research what you have. You might have a $10,000 boat, or maybe a $500.00 boat. Generally the Carlsons have some decent value.

FYI

Arlan

Try the NADA Price Guide link from this web site or click here --> http://www.iboats.com/boatprices/

Also more than likely it is FS, it stands for Fish & Ski, very common with model names or description of boats, Super Sport is not that common.

Glastron's are good boats, not high dollar boats but good. If the boat is in good shape and he is offering a good motor and trailer along with the boat he should be able to get a nice chunk of change for it. You won't get rich from a 1979 Glastron Fish & Ski.

Be reasonable with your price, this is the time of year when the classifieds get full with boats so you will have competition, I’ve noticed my paper filling up with boats the last couple of weeks. By the way if you aren't offering a motor with the boat it will be tougher to sell and tougher to get "book value" for the boat.

Good luck! ;)

The only problem with these price books are that they always give you a low price. I would never sell my boat for what they list it for. I know they are only a average but if you find a boat in the condition they discribe at the price they list, its a buy.

I too think that the NADA price guide is way out of line. I have sold three boats in the last year ALL for over 3 times the price listed

Hi, Glastron and all.

One of the things that cause this huge discrepancy in value (NADA vs. real) is that a lot of people look only at boat price. . . that is for a bare hull.

Look up the engine and the trailer and add those prices in, then put a fair used price on every piece of equipment and electronics that are included.

You will come up with a price much closer to real world selling prices.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

I agree JB; there are several pages for each boat that you add standard options and add-on options. A stereo can add a few hundred to boat price, a VHF radio add more. A 4 stroke over a 2 can add thousands

If you add everything up on the NADA web site for each boat I think it comes very close to a fair price.

Than there are the intangibles like location, desirability of design, availability of a desirable boat, time of year, and so on... The intangibles can add or detract thousands to the selling price and there is no way any book can anticipate them.

You will always have to adjust the book value up or down, they can not take into account all conditions to come up with the one and only price.

Do your homework and good luck with your sale ;)
