I'm not trying to break any posting rules by trying to sell something in this forum. I'm simply trying to find out what a motor would be worth. I bought a 1988 60 hp Merc about a month and a half ago after having seen it run and under the impression that most everything worked. Much to my dismay, i found out through a dealership who was checking out the motor AFTER i had already mounted it to my boat that the # 1 piston had a hole melted through it. After kicking myself for buying the motor w/o doing a compression check, I calmed down and decided to sell it for parts... I don't have the money or desire to repair at this point. What would be a fair price to ask for it. It has trim/tilt and a stainless prop... lower unit is good also.

i feel for you.i have my own little boat business.this the most common thing i see.its a shame & a crime that they get away with this.i'm trying to tell you nicely that, that motor was a pile when it was manufactured.there are more used parts out there than you could imagine.good luck trying to sell your parts.i would stick this motor up who ever sold it to,because ,if it was a dealer, everybody should know how shady they are.i'll bet the techs and the sales guys knew it was junk.sincerley rick from texas.

It was a private sellers first motor off his first boat. I'm not defending him by any means but i should have been a little more suspicious from the beginning. The funny thing about all of it is... the motor actually runs so well on 2 cylinders that, until compression check, no one even who heard/saw it run suspected there were any issues. Win some lose some i guess....:(

thats the problem!!!!!!!!!!!when buying a marine product from anyone always try to find someone in the know to check it out for you, even if it costs a little,(good insurance).it applies to alot of things, besides boat stuff.buying a pig in a poke doesnt only apply to animals.(back it into his house & and say oops,by the way "can i have my money back from this pile you sold me".just a thought. good luck in the future. rick from texas.
