Value of this boat.

My uncle wants to be sell this thing for him in the spring.<br /><br />I personally think he'd be going the boat and himself a favor if he just dug a hole and burried it <br /><br />I don't even know the make, it says on the registration that its a 1985 Galaxie, but it think it was stolen at one time, because I've never been able to find another galixie that looked like this one and I can see on each side where the gelcoat is faded, it was once called a "Maxum". Its 20' Long, its got a Chevy V8 with a Mercruiser outdrive.<br /><br />Its at my house right now for me to clean it so we can put it away for winter, it wasn't used this summer. It sat uncovered all summer in a canteen truck parking lot. No idea, Ryan. Can't see nuttin in the pics. They're just too dark. See if the serial #'s match on the registration and the hull. Insurance might be a problem if they don't match or your suspicions are correct.<br /><br />Take some pics in the day and repost. I know lots of people say it's not accurate, but have you checked the NADA marine guide ?

i'll post more picts tomorow.<br /><br />I don't know much about inboards, everything look okay under the lid?<br /><br />I don't think he had any insurance on it but its registered, I've been with him when we got borded and the papers checked out legal.<br /><br />The motor lid is waterlogged, I thought I was going to break my arm trying to open the thing!<br />I'm not looking forward to cleaning it, the seats are a mold farm.

Sorry, i'm not much for know how on i/o's either. Is the wiring a mess where it comes in on the left side of the pic? Other than that it looks ok, other than in need of a good cleaning. <br /><br />I would still check the #'s unless the officers actually compared them when you got boarded. I've never actually had them look at the hull numbers on me, and i've been checked a few times, too. I'm not sure what a Galaxie should or shouldn't look like.<br /><br />You could add some (maybe their supposed to be there?) gas lift shocks to the motor cover.<br /><br />Good luck on the cleaning. Cleaning someone elses neglect can be nasty.

Also check Trader on Line on the web to get comparibles. I think you would be doing yourself a big favor by letting your uncle deal with it. The motor compartment looks quite "rough", you mention engine problems, it is 19 years old, been sitting outside, hasen't been used and so on ----------.

The whole boat is "rough". <br /><br />He has owned the boat for five to six years. He bought it from people who used it as a freshwater ski boat in a lake in Maine, it sat for a year before he bought it.<br /><br />He had the tank drained and the carb replaced, then he used it in Boston harbor,provence town and other saltwater places. <br /><br />The reason its wasn't used is this year is because he's been sick, he's on medication that makes him very tired and sick. He usually will do as little as posable to the boat to keep it going, well this summer he really let it go, it said it sat all summer in a parking lot uncovered, all the seats are waterlogged and moldy. It seems to be in running order now, that he carb had been rebuilt, there was salt water in it.<br /><br />I didn't want anything to do with it, but I knew he was sick and if I didn't offer the boat would sit un-covered all winter and really be a mess.<br /><br />I'm going to pull all the loose interior peace's out so they can be stored inside for the winter, maybe they'll dry out, clean the boat up and try to sell it for him in the spring.<br /><br />I was out in it two years ago, the last time it saw the water, although most of the accessories didn't work, everything needed for the boat to function worked and it ran well.<br /><br />He said if the boat needed to much work to sell as-is I can have it and fix it up. I have no interntion of doing that, I want it out my driveway asap <br /><br />I'll post more pictures tomorrow.<br /><br />Dealing with this boat makes me love out Whalers even more!

Ryan - There is work and then there is real work. If the motor runs and the outdrive is OK and the floor is sound what you have is the vanilla work. You clean it up, fix the rear hatch and do the other "look pretties". You will get the max $$ this way if you wait till early spring to sell it. If the above "stuff" is not all OK you are looking at real work to get the max $$ for it. You could even wind up putting more into it than it is worth. It may be a great rig for someone who is looking for a "project boat". You WILL find a buyer but I wouldn't offer a guess on what to ask.

The outdrive was re-built two years ago, so it should be good.<br /><br />All the running gear seems to be okay, its got a big motor. 360hp, I had it WOT last summer with just me in the boat, running low 50's, with a better prop I think there is more in her.<br /><br />I worry about the hull, today I took all the removable seats out, everything in is damp, floor,seats everything. I can't find any soft spots in the floor, I just worry about the stringers that can't be seem. I personally don't think the boat is safe. I wouldn't trust it with my life in big water.

Well Ryan, not to put the boat down or anything, but based on the style, trim, engine cover, US Marine controls at the helm, and the "Maxum" name, I would say you have something very close to a Bayliner. Perhaps a spin off production line. USCG records seem to indicate they produced boats under 20+ different names.
