Vapor Lock

1987 Evinrude 50 hp. We have a problem with vapor lock (warm hard start). I'm wondering if I might install an inline filter with a vapor separator. Would that work? And where would I install that - before the fuel pump? Thank you all. Looking forward to your advice.

Well ---I do not think the issue is vapor lock.------What trouble shooting have you done on this motor ?------I suggest you start with checking for STRONG spark when there are issue.---Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" or more when you have this no start condition ?-------Have you load tested the battery ?-----I suggest you take the starter apart for inspection , new brushes perhaps.

Thank you for the reply. Spark has been checked. Replaced stator. Battery checked. Starter checked. The engine will restart after about an hour or so. Cold starts easily. My diagnosis is that there is vapor lock somewhere in the system, and when the engine cools, the gas re-liquifies.

Doubt it.------Just operate the primer bulb.------That would push any air / fuel vapor right trough the system.
