I understand that there is at least one filter in the VST that needs to be cleaned from time to time. One, I believe, is at the bottom of the high pressure pump pick-up within the vst.

How do I get to it? Do I need to remove the VST from the engine first, or do I simply unscrew those 8 or 9 little screws on the tank cover? Can I resuse the cover gasket or should I have a new one hand when for the build back? One more thing: What do I clean it with?

Long Winter's got me thinking, that's all!

Tank can stay on engine--drain fuel and pressure by removing brass plug near bottom of tank. Gasket will be unusable if it comes into contact with fuel (go figure huh?), so have a replacement ready. If you're REAL careful you might be able to re-use it, but for the cost of a new one, it's not worth the trouble. Filter usually plugs up with fine granular material--not hard to clean, but might also want to have one of these on hand also...:)

stumped?
I kinda doubt it.
there is also a filter in the pressure regulator passage as well as one in each injector thats needs attention.
if you cut the clamp for the high pressure lines you MUST use the same style for reassembly. DO NOT use worm gear hose clamps.

Rodbolt,

Have you ever posted info on getting at the filters on the fuel injectors or pressure regulator? I tried looking a while back and never found anything.

I have a 1999 200SXTX. For the fuel injectors, is it as simple as removing the wire-tie and 4 bolts on the fuel rail and removing the clips on the injectors? Do they just pull out once the clips have been removed? Any gotchas to worry about? I have the shop manual, but want to make sure I'm not getting in over my head.

On the pressure check valve filter, remove the pressure check valve holder, remove the two screws, and then can you just pull the pressure regulator off to get at the inline filter? Again, any gotchas in this process?

Thanks much for the help..

no gotchas.
its all fairly straight fwd.
if you cut the high pressure hose clips you MUST use the factory clips as replacements, you can use a CV clamp tool or some dulled end nippers to clamp the new clips.
other than that nothing is very difficult on the fuel side.
no springs or jumping things anyway.
use vasoline to aide in holding the VST gasket in the groove on reassembly.

Thanks for all the help. Still one question: what is the proper way to get inside the VST?

Thanks again

to get to the pressure regulator requires removing the VST from the engine, to simply access the high pressure pump filter remove all the phillips head scres, then remove the 3 10mm hex bolts, then remove the last 2 screws that you cant get to with the unit bolted to the block. the tank will now slip away from the top.
takes about 30-45 minutes.

Okay, how do I remove the the "last 2 screws that you cant get to with the unit bolted to the block" when the unit IS bolted to the block. Please forgive my ignorance.

Thanks

you simply unbolt it.
otherwise you get to chase about 9 screws instead of just 2.
