Start by checking for 12V at the coil when cranking
next filing the points and make sure they open and close as the rotor turns.

If no spark after this, replace the points and condenser

Still no success compression was good on all cylinders, replaced points . Used dwell tool. Carburetor is getting fuel. But once I start cracking engine IN the lake it turns on but I can't put it in idle otherwise engine sputters and dies and I have to spray starting fluid inside carb to turn back on. 😫😫😫

What was the compression numbers?
What is the idle rpm, and if its turned up does it still have the issue?

Except for the one cylinder the numbers are good. Most likely a valve issue

The one cylinder should not cause it not to run in the water. What is your idle rpm, 600 ?

Yea i was thinking 7 out of 8 isnt to bad but i would want to get that fixed hopefullyvjust stuck since it hasnt ran for 9 to 10 years and Roughly between 700 - 900

If accurate 700 to 900 is more then enough to keep it going. Its a real puzzler

Yea your telling me now am just part swapping. One friend told me it could be the propeller. But the people that had it before they parked it 10 years ago said it ran fine

It could be the exhaust is mostly plugged up. It runs on land because there is no back pressure. In the water the exhaust builds up and is unable to be fully pushed out

Is that the exhaust? Or where should I look

That is where the exhaust exits, but look at the exhaust elbows and pies which lead to the drive. Like the bottom of the Y pipe

Not so much there, but those areas can cause issues. The back side of the exhaust goes down to the drive in a Y pipe. Where the left and right side join together before it exits can get clogged if things drop down inside it

The y pipe going down was no build up or anything in there looked fairly clean 😬😬😬

If your compression gauge is accurate then motor is good enough to run even with the one low cylinder. I'm out of ideas

Thank you for your help. I used 2 different gauges both read the same. Someone mentioned to me something to do with the propeller

Anyone have anymore ideas before I take it to a marine mechanic.
What was your procedure when you tuned the carb?

Other thoughts:
Inspect your fuel quality. I dump the gas out of my filter canister into a clear glass jar for inspection. Does it look like you've got good gas coming out of your tank?

Next run the boat for a minute and read the plugs after you shut it down. Plugs will tell us a lot.. plenty of guides online that teach you to read spark plug condition. Take pics or tell us what you find.

Those are my top two suggestions on where to start given the info.. but next I'd test ignition circuit components.
