Vent and Fill Plug--HELP!!

Hi,
I bought a 15' Glastron with a '83 70 HP motor last summer. It ran great last summer but when I put it in the water this year there was no water from the tell tale. I'm attempting to replace the impeller and possibly the water pump (after checking the hose...no clog or mud dubbers) and can't begin to get the vent or fill plug unscrewed! I sprayed some lub for this purpose and no luck. It seems the previous owner must have had some problems because there is some warping around the screw. I use it in both fresh and salt water so my guess is that there is some corrosion. I really don't know what to do. I figured I would be frustrated with the impeller not the lower unit vent and fill plugs!!
Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I had a fill plug with a damaged slot once. I had to use an easy out to extract it. Mercury dealers have replacement screw and gaskets.

pick up a $ 10 impact driver from the hardware store or auto parts store. They are the answer to not tearing up screw heads. you just twist them in the direction you want to go and hit it with a hammer.

Luv, The hand impact driver is the ticket. You do not want to turn it too much, let the impact driver do the work. Tap gently, and it that fails, tap firmly.
