anyone know what the deal is.

i get individual replacement vent/drain seals from my mercruiser dealer. they're always a hard blue fiber kind of seal. these are what i've usually seen.
now, 2 years in a row. my mercruiser impeller replacement kit has come with the yellow ones. certainly of different design than the blue fiber ones.

i thought the blue were for alpha1's, and the yellows for bravos.

any difference other than appearance and design? a new, better designed seal?

mercruiser impeller replacement kit 47-89984T5. says right on it for alpha1's so it must contain the right seal....

Re: vent/drain plug seal?

Yes the new yellow ones replace the blue fiber ones. They are made out of a (technical term coming up here) rubbery stuff and take less torque on the drain screws to form a good seal.
The yellow ones are also twice the cost of the blue ones. At the moment i believe both are available to order individually, but the yellow ones come standard now in even point of purchase drain screw packs. I don't don't know positively but I believe the yellow ones are eventually going to replace the blue ones.... but I'm not Merc so don't quote me on that.
