Re: Ventalation problem

"A 14 inch prop wouldn't fit on my 1988 60hp Johnson without clearancing the trim tab."

Not a real problem there...notch the tab.
You don't mention the prop that wouldn't fit, but the 14" is not the problem, apparently Rake was.
Watch the slip ratio on the hustler...it might bite but the design lacks efficiency. The cup is not placed correctly for some reason. Every one of these I have tested showed high slip numbers.....I don't care for them, and there isn't many props I haven't run in aluminum.
If they've changed the design of the Hustler, maybe it's getting better, but the 2007 stock I ran pulled hard, just didn't produce the speed for the drop in RPM....

What would you suggest ???? Aluminum, stainless, anything that would be a good fit for my needs.

The best performance over-all, will be with something like a stiletto in SS.
If your at the top or above the rpm range, stay with the same pitch....If you are in the middle of the range, drop 1-2" of pitch.
Another alternate would be an Apollo in SS.
If you want to stay with aluminum, it has been shown in my testing that the OMC/BRP alums are very efficient.
MWC has a new alum out that shows better numbers than the std Michigan match, but I haven't seen it listed yet.

That's the one...
The diameter is a "built-in" part of the design....sometimes we get too hung-up on that dimension.

Hello,

Not to say this would definitely help in your case as I have no "science" to back it up, but I had a problem with ventilation on my old pontoon boat. I decided to take off the hydrofoil/doelfin that came on it to see how that would affect it. The problem got much worse...so bad I replaced it while in the water at the lake for the ride back.

Maybe one would help you in your case...relatively easy and inexpensive to add.

Just a thought...hope you find your solution.

I am going to go with the 13.25 X 13 Stainless Steel Stiletto as walleyehed suggested. I will let you know how it goes once there isn't 4" of ice on the lake.
