How important is it to have the powered vent working on an engine? My 4.3L blower has not been working for 8 yrs and nothing to my knowledge has happened because of it. Is there really much chance of the boat exploading? Just wondering how crucial it is to get this fixed.

Gasoline fumes are heavier then ambient air, so they settle into the bildge and sit there. There are any number of parts on your motor that can throw a spark.

Why would you "play with fire"?

it would be a cheap insurance policy for you to have the exaust blower working. why risk it???
there was a boat that exploded just a few wks ago on Lake Mead. It usually happens 1-3 times a yr on our lake. Trust Me....It Happens

A new blower costs $40, why mess with fire?? The responsible thing is to get it fixed, for the safety of yourself and your passengers.

has nice blowers for $19.95 i got a new one last week . they have 2 different ones at that price..once you blow up you might not get a second chance..blow the motor get a tow. get killed over $20 is reallly dumb. as gas is over $3 gal

There are 3" and 4" blowers. You've been VERY lucky so far. Right now I'd say your years without a bilge blower is equivalent to a cat's nine lives. You only have one more shot.

Thanks for the help all!

I just bought this boat later last year from my brother-in-law. He had bought it from my dad about 8 yrs back and he said it had not been working ever since then.

I am a first time boat owner trying to do the right thing. I love this site, there are so many helpful people. I have learned a lot in the last few days and plan on continuing to participate in these forums.

If you get stopped for a safety inspection & your blower is inoperative, expect a ticket far more expensive than the cost of a new blower....
It is not worth the risk in safety-wise......
