I have a 1978 Mako 23' that is in pretty good shape. It is getting to be time to repower. My question is with the 275 out performing 300hp motors in tests will this 250 rip my boat apart? It is rated for 250 but that was back in the day of crank shaft rated motors.

Mac

P.S. I got my arse kicked by a guy in a Yellow-fin custom rig with 3 275's on it and I didn't even hear him comming!

I'd go over every square inch of the transom to check for rot, or any other discrepencys, before you hang one of those monsters on there...

If the transom is in tip top shape, no problem...

As for the dude in the Yellowfin, just be glad you don't have to fill his fuel tanks... :D

The Verado is a heavy heavy motor. Make sure the transom is sound. 250hp is 250 hp, the boat won't know the difference, but the weight of that beast will definately be a factor. Good luck and post pics!
