verado ???

I have a 2003 33' Palmetto that I recently repowered with t/275 Verados. During my 3rd hour of operation I started getting the alarm for water in the fuel/ Voltage problem (4 beeps every 2 minutes).<br />I immediately dumped the fuel separators into glass jars with no water found. I then ran again with the alarms still sounding. I switched fuel seps between the motors and the alarm still sounded.<br />I then bought 2 new Group 27 1000 Marine cranking Amp batteries and installed them with no relief with the alarms.<br />I took it to a dealer on Friday night and hooked it up to the "Magic" computer and the engine wasn't showing any faults. Any ideas?????<br /><br />I am brand new to this board, and I would appreciate any suggestions that any of you have.

Welcome to iboats. <br /><br />Do you have battery switches and did you switch them as the motors were running? Doing that interrupts the flow of the charging voltage. If it suddenly has no place to go, even for a split-second, it'll find a way out. Usually thru the alternator diodes. The computer may not show a voltage problem with fresh batteries, but it should show up as a lower than expected voltage level (ie 12v vs 14v). It may not be flagged by the computer but would be one of the readings that are monitored with the motor running ... like water temp, RPMs, etc.

Thanks for the reply Willy, I purposely routed the engines directly to the starting batteries so there is no switch to deal with. The house batteries are on the switch and I also have isolators on each bank (2) of batteries.

I had a interesting day out this week where I was separating out my batteries so only the motor was on the start battery, kind of like what you did. I had the + all sparated and motor was running fine, but still had an original problem of going to guard mode when I hit trim tab switch. disconnected all batteries and separated the - out. At start up, the motor gained rpms and tried to go into gear on it's own. I immediatly shut down. Re hooked back so all neg was in common again. Still same problem, motor ran away at start. I checked and checked that all batt connections were tight. About to give up, I decided to reset the sensor detection, under the factory defaults menu on the SC5000 monitor. I started back up and engine was ok now. I started up to speed and hit the trim tab switch to see what whould happen, it worked this time. No going to guard mode. I'm wondering now if you need to reset this after installing additional battery to your connection??? Doesn't make any sense, but then neither does it fixing my problem with the trim tabs. I don't think you should just do this, but might ask the dealer if it would be worth a try the next time you get the alarm. -- if you have this option anyway.<br />Mike

It's funny you say that Mike, I thought the exact same thing and my dealer insisted that the computer will reset itself. <br />Good news though I believe we found the problem. After the arrival of the "Mercury Super Computer" we found that it was in fact a fuel problem. I had Racors and Verados don't like Racors. We are removing them tonight and lake testing in the morning. Wish me luck!!!

That is good news. Hope the lake test goes well. I had just changed from a racor to a tempo to get dual out lines only 9 months before I put the Verado on. Let us know how it goes. PS What is a Mercury Super Computer??? Doesn't sound like the setup computer I saw at the dealer.<br />Mike

I was being facteous about the "Super" part. It seems that you cannot tell if the motor is even running without the dealer diagnostic computer on hand.

And this is why I'll stick with my older two stroke and carb'd inboard motors...no computers.

As it turns out I had a bum float switch in each of the fuel accumulators (VST???) I replaced them today and she purrs like a kitten. Thanks for everyones help!!!
