I just hooked up my verizon wireless broadband card .I haven't had internet access at home for about 2 years due to the only thing that was available was satelite which i tried and didn't like . Has anyone else used the verizon before if so anything i should watch for?
Thanks in advance.

Just make sure you get a good cell phone signal, as thats where the signal is coming from. Thats about all I know about it..

the Cell Link seems to pull a better signal strength than the cell phone here at home and the speed so far seems pretty good . since i can't get normal highspeed and the phone lines won't let dial up work i guess so far so good.
The wireless is 59 a month

Not too shabby a deal, seems cheaper and quicker than Satellite!

You will have better reception in your card than in your cel. It is a bit more expensive than regular DSL but if have it in a laptop then you have internet in the road, which is nice. Having internet in the road has allow me to do a lot of stuff I could only hope for. The best thing about the card/pc combo is that your connection is faster and more powerful that my blackberry connection. It is true wireless high speed internet (take it form a guy that works for ATT) and your pc at the end of it is the icing of the cake. I was looking at getting the service but since the internal changes at ATT are going to make working away from the office a thing of the past I decided not to go that way.
Good luck.

Nandy,
The main reason i decided to try it was that I can bearly get dial up. Then i was talking with my parents who use comcast cable, the price without the cable would be 67 a month . when i heard that i figured 59 wasn't bad for the high speed everywhere i go. Plus with having the knee scoped today and being home way more than normal figured i would be bored .

I have the comcast high speed. I also do not have comcast cable and the price is a lot higher if you do not have comcast TV service. I think you are right about that 67 bucks a month thing. Then you have to pay a monthly rental fee if you dont have your own cable modem also. I tell you what though its nice having 10 MBPS down and 3 Mbps up. I used to get a crappy upload speed with comcast (like less than 1mbps) but they have been making some changes and upgrading a lot here recently. I know that its pricy and people always say that cable companies jack prices a lot but ive had the service for a couple of years and the only increase ive seen is in the speed and not the price. Sure id love to pay less for the service but i cant go to dsl or that FIOS service they are just too slow. I have some friends with that FIOS service and they hate it. Dont have internet at certain times of the day and if they do its slow.

What kind of speed do you get with the verizon wireless? As far as up and down speed. If you go to a site that measures your bandwidth what speeds do you see? Im just curious because it would be nice to take your internet with you. I just wonder how it would work if you had a couple of pc's running internet at the same time on the one service. Now i can get great speed on 3 pc's all at the same time.

According to their website:
download speeds of 600–1400 kbps and uploads speeds of 500–800 kbps. that looks plenty to me unless you are doing some sort of sharing, which they do not allow, but I wonder how are they enforcing that.

When i am showing full signal strength i can get 1100 down and 770 upload speeds but sitting at the house right now my down is around 680 and up is 530
if i am at my parents house I can upload and download faster than her cable through the wireless broadband compared to the wireless router and her comcast

We got Verizion Broadband about 3 months ago. So far we are satisfied. I did notice that when I take it on the road in metropolitan areas the signal sometimes gets bumped during peak hours. Other than that I can give it a thumbs up.

When at my property in Citra I can only get service in their "extended service" area and is not much faster than dial up if that (still clearing land so nothing else is out here yet). Had to call tech support to make some changes in the settings to get it to work in the extended area. I have not been home yet to see how the changes work there. Tech support took 2 days to call back on this issue however.

They ALL con people! All of the carriers also make their statements as hard as possible to decipher on purpose.

As far as Verizon goes, I recently tried a Motorola Q with them. I did it because I went in looking for a new phone of the "flip variety" and the salesman gave me a big song and dance about how I could get the Q for free and the monthly charges woud remain the same. Admittedly, I did not go over the paperwork closely because I had a squirming two year old in my arms. Luckily I called Verizon on the phone that night to verify the monthly charges - they had gone up from about $90 per month to about $160 per month. I brought the phone back the next day and had a little chat with the sales manager about outright lying and lying by ommission. To Verizon's credit, however, I believe they fired the salesman.
