Re: Very disturbing "prank"

They are that bad.
Last week they pulled the keeper pins from the utiltity trailer ramp storage, during daylight in front of the house!!
No big deal, just 40 pounds of steel ramp X 2 flying down the highway at 60!!!
The ramps had only slid a foot out of the tray, but???
There are no practical jokes, it's a myth, always has been.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

Last spring the wife and I were enjoying the striper fishing on the Roanoke River in NC. Spent the night at a Motel, and I was sleeping good until the night manager woke me up at 2am. It seems the local police wanted me to secure my dog so they could haul a thief off to jail.

I have five retrievers but Bozo, my 134 pound Flat Coat/Chessie mix, travels with us when fishing and sleeps in the boat. (He sleeps in the boat at home too, his bed is under the center console). The thief had tried to steal the "Raker" SS prop off my boat. Bozo had him tree'd on top of a dumpster behind the resturant. The night manager heard Bozo growling and the thief yelling for help.

I held onto Bozo as the cops were getting the thief down when Bozo got loose  and went to help them.

The next day I had to go by the police station to show them Bozo's rabies tag. One of the cops said he wished I had just gone home, so they could have started the series of rabies shots on the theif. The thief already had taken four props, two fishfinders, and two radios off of other boats that night. He had been stealing from boats for a couple of weeks when Bozo latched onto his a**. Bozo got him in one cheek, both legs, and both hands and one arm. :)

You have to see Bozo to really appriciate him. He is 26½-inches tall at the shoulder, measures 36-inches around the chest, and can carry a soccor ball in his mouth. He is solid muscle.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

Later on that day Bozo got about 5 pounds of grilled fish (he likes rare fish better than steak) also he had the left over cut bait to go with raw fish heads to chew on and bury. Before we got loaded up to go home he managed to roll around in the scales, guts, etc. Needless to say he rode home in the boat.

I have to get some batteris and figure out how to d/l pictures from my new digital camera, before I can post a picture. Heck I got to figure out how to work the danged camera, only had it since the end of Feburary.

I love all five of my retrievers and spoil them rotten. Bozo is the biggest con-artist in the group. He does march out of step and to a different tune. He is the only one that I trust to guard the boat and not leave it to go off raiding trash cans and chaseing cats.

Hi there Red....

Just ran across your last note on your dog. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but a lot of people just don't know this.

Salmon heads and many other fish heads are loaded with toxins. Especially for dogs.

No.... I'm not some member of PAWS telling you how you should care for your dog. I didn't know fish heads were bad for dogs either, until somebody told me.

I guess the toxins in Salmon Heads are the worst... Beware.... Oh... and I'd be happy to have a good dog like that. He sounds like a real buddy!!! :D

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

"i used a 3ft cresent wrench and a 6ft cheater bar" so from 9 feet away you tightened your ball nut. this is not a good idea for so many reasons. tighter is not always better. and i hate to tell you guys but i could get your ball off, i dont care how big of an impact gun you used or how big of a cheater bar you used. maybe some people dont know much about fasteners but some do and every bolt has a strength, tighten it to far and it will break. ive seen many people tighten lug nuts and trailer balls ect with impacts and cheater bars only to take off down the road to have it break. tightening the **** out of your stuff is not going to deter thieves, its only going to shorten the life of the things you have.

i have to agree with dixie, well mostly, the correct torque for a 2in ball with a 1in shank is about 250lbs and i thinks with 9 feet if extention you well over killed that, but if you have a good impact gun (for home use, shops go with much higher pressures) you usually get right around 250 out of it.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

dixie, i know plenty about fasteners! i was a maint/mech for 12 yrs. turned more bolts than many people have seen in there lives. did you know it takes 30% more torque to loosen a nut or bolt? still think you can get it loose? an 1 1/4" bolt can take a lot of torque, more than what an impact will put on it.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

Do like I do and use "Lock-Tite". It won't come off then, (on a 1¼ bolt) unless its King Kong on the wrench. If you need to take it off just heat it up with a propane torch to release the "Lock-Tite" and off it comes.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

your right catfish, i also have seen alot of fasteners in my time and i never meant to make you sound ignorant of what you are doing. but between you and me, i dont think its a good idea to reccomend things like 9ft breaker bars to people who may not be as experienced. maybe i cant get your ball off, not that i want to. but i dont like my stuff being so hard to get at that i have to go out of my way when i want to work on it myself. if i didnt want the ball to ever come off, i would weld the nut after i tightened it. not many theives will go through the trouble of grinding a 1 1/4 bolt/nut in two.

i dont know what makes idiots do stupid things like sabatoge other peoples rigs, but i do know what happens to them when they are caught where i am from. all i can say is check your setup anytime you feel like someone could have done something to damage it.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

Dixie, If you just want to make it real difficult, you could also Brad it. Tighten the nut, then give the bottom threads on the bolt a few good licks with a mall. Extremly hard to get off with wrenches. Now when you want to get it off, you could get a portaband saw and cut the damaged threads off, which is too much work for a thief, but you could still get it back off, it you need too.

Just a tip,

I have a six foot long, one inch drive Snap On ratchet, nut goes on, it does NOT come off, would be fun to see one of those greasy chuahua sized cheezy chain dudes straining to get the nut loose, even more fun to catch em in the act, bust a bat over their coconut skull and twist the chains til their slimeball brains pop out of their crisco slicked hairdoo, grrrrrrr, I hate thieves almost as much as RAGHEADS, but I wont go there

hey, how do you make a raghead go woof? Douse the rags with gas, add match, WOOOOOFFFF, lol,

anyone have a fire extinguisher???

no?????

GOOD !!!!!

:D :D :D :D

castaway, i think you may be in need of some anger management. :D
if some one really wanted to do it right, they would drill through the nut & ball shaft & put a roll pin through it. nobody but you would know it had a pin through it.

Re: Very disturbing "prank"

July 4th it was when i put in at my local ramp.Thought it would be a good idea to get there fairly early in the morning to get a good parking spot.
Any ways my buddy who lived up stream said it would be better if i dragged the trailer round to his ramp to save me the hassles of the hoards of people gathering for the fireworks.
11-45pm and dragging my boat through their yard and onto the concrete paved drive, when crash trailer parted from truck.
Not known to me but it would appear that someone had loosened off the nut that secures the clamp on the toungue to the ball.
Now i allways make a cursory check on hitching, as going down the road could have been one nasty accident.
