I have a 1995, 175HP Intruder that doesn't smoke upon start up; this concerns me. Every other 2 stroke I've had smokes upon start up then calms down after warming up. The only way I can get it to smoke is to open it up a little. I know it s a hub through exhaust and my prop shows signs of it getting oil. I've also marked my oil resevoir tank and am going to pre-mix my gas next time I go out so I can track how much oil is being used from the tank but I'm wondering if the previous owner may have used synthetic or something else that may be going on? I get no alarms as you would get from no oil or low oil. Any suggestions for me to look at before I take it out again?

Now there's a switch! Everybody else complains about the smoke. Yeah, I know, not an answer, just a comment.

If it's smoking then I know it's getting oil. But you're right, most everyone tries to get it to quit smoking, I just want a little, not a cloud where I can't breathe.

I got a suggestion, go fishing and forget about it.;) That motor will let you know when it isn't getting enough oil.
