Very strange idea?

Hello everybody!
I have a wooden boat (http://cgp.vadstena.nu - sorry, in Swedish...). Me and my father are currently restoring it (it is a wreck). We have no rules about what is right and what is wrong and we think of our options in selecting engine. The thing with our boat is that the engine is in the middle of the boat and take very much space there (one feature that all CGP-boats have).

Now to my question. I was thinking that maybe there has been some engine-manufacture that has built an outboard-engine that are horizontal (just like car-motors). If we could find such, maybe we could use that to make it small? The problem with the outboard engines I have seen is that they are 90 degrees wrong.... Anyone have any idea's of make and model of such outboard engine?

Hey Swede man, I have seen guys putting Personal watercraft motors and pump drives into aluminum boats and they are cool....... I tend to restore boats with original stuff, but I have been known to convert. I made an I/O Searay into a Outboard for a guy and He picked up tons of interior room. Anyway....anything is possible with commitment and money.

Have you thought about using a borgwarner v-drive transmission? It would allow you to put the engine towards the back of the boat instead of the middle.
