Hello all,

What im really after is a bit of knowledge, as it seems the damage has already been done!

The Background Info
I have, as mentioned, an 1989 125 Force, and have been happy for 4 years, using info off this board my motors never missed a beat, until now.

I had been out fishin all day, and as i was heading back to the ramp, at full throttle, i noticed what felt like a sudden loss of power, i slowed down to about half throttle, and it seemed fine. I gave it full throttle again, and after about 15 seconds it lost power again. This time i dropped back to about a quarter throttle and the motor stopped

I took the cowling off straight away and felt the head, it wasn't so hot that i couldnt keep my hand on it, but it was pretty hot.

I tried to start it again, and it refused to turn over, so i grabbed the fly wheel and tried to rotate it by hand to see why it wouldnt spin, and i could only turn it about 1/4 inch either way.

I was stumped, and so sat there for about 5 minutes thinking about the problem, and then tried to start it again. And it worked, and sounded fine. BUT there was no water spray coming from the exhaust relief valves, so i shut it down, thinking that my impellor was shot and i had over heated.

I came back in on the kicker, and the next day i took it into the local mechanic and asked him to do a compression test.

The initial "thumb" pressure test showed that 3 of the 4 cylinders have compression, but one of the cylinders has NONE!

I have left it up to the tech to remove the head ( all the bolts are siezed ) and inspect the damage.

The Facts
- I hadn't used the boat for about 3 months.
- The fuel had no stabilizer in it.
- The impellor is 18 months old
- When i first started it, lots of water (more than normal) was coming out of the relief holes.
- It had run great all day ( not at full throttle )
- At one point ( 15 minutes before melt down ) i noticed some kelp around the leg, while trolling, and removed it.
- At full throttle it lost power
- It physically siezed, and could not be turned for about 5 minutes
- The head wasn't to hot just after it siezed
- It no longer pumps watter
- There is no compression in one cylinder

The first questions i have in my unhappy, no boatin, saga, are the following,

What can cause a motor to temporarily sieze?
What damage gets caused by it siezing, pistons/bore etc

Any help, explanations, similar stories or the like, i would really apreciate reading them.

So far im thinking that if im lucky i mught have to re bore, and replace one piston.
And if im unlucky, save for a new motor

Thanx Team, sorry for the long winded approach.

Brad
Invercargill
South Island
New Zealand
