Hello all. Having trouble with my vhf. I recently bought a boat with a Uniden West Marine VHF680 radio, model 12019147, and every now and then I get a beeping sound with the message "low battery" on the vhf display. Then it goes away. I charge the main batteries before every outing and they seem to be charged fine. Can someone please tell me what's going on?

Thanks.

johnny be, that really is hard to say not knowing what the VHF radio manufacture set their low battery alarm level at. You could contact the radio manufacture and see what they have to say. And who know there may be a way to reset that alarm to a different level before going off... JMHO!

When the alarm sounds Don't turn anything else on or off and measure battery voltage at the battery and at the power input to the radio. I suspect you have a battery or charging system issue.

Just one thing - are you running the VHF off your starting battery? My Helix 5 gives a low battery alarm whenever I start my outboard.
