i've noticed my '07 volvo 5.7 DPS has been lightly vibrating during hard turns, whether at low speed or on plane. A couple weeks ago i accidentally started my motor while the drive was up but quickly realized and shut it down. I'm not sure if it that had anything to do with it or not, but either way i'm assuming i have a u-joint issue. I haven't pulled my drive yet, but i know I have the non-serviceable ujoints. As i'm sure everyone knows, a new oem shaft with joints is expensive. Has anyone had any long term problems using ujoints from an auto parts store. I know its do-able, but do they last long term or should i just get the oem replacement?
thanks!
hope you guys had a good summer

The u-joints are the same as the automotive.
Try pulling the drive and see if there might be grease fittings or a hole where the fittings go??
While it's off, check the bellows.
If you replace the bellows use the Volvo one.
Fits much better.

They used the same parts as other manufacturers.
Look around and you can find the parts to change it yourself.

3860232 Volvo part# e-bay or Google.

Yea I learned the hard way about the aftermarket bellows..replaced bellows past spring and noticed a leak. Sure enough, it was the drive bellow leaking. Aftermarket one was a real sloppy fit. Now that I'm thinking about it, that leak may have rusted out my ujoints. They seemed ok after I pulled my drive to replace bellows with oem, but maybe they rusted up over time. They probably would have survived if they had grease zerks on them. Can't understand why a manufacturer would make their ujoints non-greaseable. No benefit to that..but Thanks for the links guys

I replaced mine with Precision 344's that had the zerks. I had to go back to the part store to get shorter zerks, save yourself the trip and get the short ones while you are there. By the way, Moog part number is 344 as well.

Great, thanks for the heads up on the zerks! How have they held up? Any balance/ vibratation issues? I believe Volvo sells the replacement shaft whole as one piece due to vibration complaints of just replacing the joints. Not sure why replacing just the ujoints would cause balance problems
