It has been a long time coming. Thank to everyone on here I finally got my 89 120 L Drive up and running. I got the boat 3 years ago for free. It had been sitting for a while and the crank was snapped at the flywheel. Everyone said I would never do it. Well Guess what after alot of long nights and days I finally hit the key today and listened to her roar! Smoked out the neighborhood but you know what I dont care. I let it sit there and run for a few minutes and then turned it off. Went to crank it up and the flywheel key snaped. Now My next question is can I go to a local hardware store and get a woodruff key that fits or do I need to order one from a store? I know it broke due to the flywheel not being tight. I want to listen to her run agian and dont want to wait for the new key to ship. Is it ok to just get a woodruff key?

Thanks
Matt

Re: VICTORY...Some what

Yes, as long as it fits correctly.

Key stock is mild steel, the key is a sacrificial part, intended by design to shear rather than damage a much more expensive flywheel or crank.

Ensure that the tapered mating surfaces are clean and you MUST torque the nut to the proscribed lbs-ft.
