Hi, I'm new to the Mercury part of the forum and I know very little about Mercury outboards. I found a set of old controls from an old Mercury that I'm guessing a from the 60's, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what year they are, what they fit, and their approximate value. The cable works perfectly. Merc.jpg Merc2.jpg Merc3.jpg

Used on the 1958 / 60 Mercury ---------Mark 28---variety of motors.----The one end fits where the steering handle connects at the motor.----Steering handle would be removed to install the rotary motion end.-------Those motors are equipped with the automatic shift / slinky spring transmission.

Will also fit the rare Merc 250 model 1962 single year production of that 25 hp rated motor.

I was looking to trade them for an outboard I found locally, what are they worth approximately so I know what kind of negotiating I will have to do.

They go to a series of motors that are, to put it politely, an acquired taste. The automatic transmission motors have their following, but it's not a large group. The motors run well, but are a bear to work on. Particularly the lower units - special tools, tricky set-up, etc. In my opinion, you might get $50-$100 for them, but they're not sought after enough to get more than that...

That sounds like an accurate price in America, but up here in Canada old Mercury stuff is worth more, I've never seen these before, but I've seen the outboards they fit. I've also heard how difficult it is to replace an impeller. That's why I stick to old OMC

Nah, it just seems like Mercury stuff goes for more up there because you're Loonies are only worth 79? (U.S.). Sorry, living 2 miles from the border, I couldn't resist the dig... ;-)

If my dollar was worth more I'd be over the border buying all your stuff. OMC stuff is a lot cheaper and more common than Mercury stuff where I am, especially old stuff.
