Vinyl Damage/Oxidation?

I left my boat uncovered in heavy rain for one week and now my red vinyl has white spots on it.
It looks like oxidation but won"t come off. Any ideas? Somebody told me that I shouldn't have used Fantasiik on it last year. Maybe now that the Armourall has worn off, exposing the Fantastik, the rain may have reacted with it. Sound right? Any idea how to rectify? Help!
Captain O'Malley

I don't know where you are from. Are the spots from hard water or dried sea salt?

I've had great success removing hard, white, water spots using plain, household vinegar.

As with all new products, before using it on the main surfaces of your seats, you should test it on a small hidden area of your red vinyl to make sure it doesn't cause any discoloration problems.

Immediately after cleaning, wipe the vinegar off with a clean, damp rag and then followup with a dry one.

If it's from embedded salt then it may take many treatments with just plain water to finally remove all of the spotting.

Thanks for the info. It doidn't work. It is not salt. I tried All Purpose Cleaner which eventually took off some of the white but I think it might be very caustic. I will try two different types of Vinyl Restorer. Thanks again for your time.

Captian - This is gonna sound REALLY crazy, but I had little red dots of tree sap all over my boat, including the vinyl. I tried EVERYTHING to get it off, no luck.

As my temper flared, so did my use of harsh chemicals (and language), i.e., MEK, Xylene, Acetone, no luck.

Wife sugessted one of those Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Pads, from the grocery store.

Advised her she was nuts, and if she wanted to do it, go ahead. The sap disappeared, and so did I, for the rest of the day... My ego STILL hurts.

Maybe worth a try...

Rick

this one is really wierd but it worked on plumbing fixtures in a house that hadn't been cleaned for years- it had a shallow water well in colorado. nothing would take the stains out except coca coloa direct from the bottle. Makes one wonder about your stomach.
