When I set up my profile, I chose to post an active email address.
Since doing this, I have answered, on an average, 6 requests for year id's per day, multiple requests for an explantion of the max speed formula and misc prop info.
Most of the questions are repititious and I only have the knowledge that I have obtained from this board and I do explain this.
More than happy to pass it along without cluttering up the board.
I have been emailed phone numbers for contact, which I did respond to.
Unfortuanetly, some ***hole thinks it is fun to send viruses.
Have received 3 trojans within the past week.
Enuf is enuf. No damage. Just aggravated.
I am deleting the link from my profile. Those of you that do have my address, by all means you may contact me.

Re: Virus Attempt

Hi Mike,
So far I.ve never had a problem from this board and I've been a member for over a year. Are you sure it's coming from here?

Re: Virus Attempt

No I am not. This is the only site that I use that address at though.
This board is great and not the fault of the board. I just figured I would specify why I took the address down.

I don't blame you there, MG. It's a shame some folks, be they kids or full-grown "adults" want to do something like that.
So far, I haven't been attacked, but I'll surely keep my eyes open, and Virus software frosty.
I have allways despized mallicious hackers, even in my Commodore64 and BBS days. My BBS speciallized in detection and countermeasures. But that was back in the early 90's.
If you choose to not visit anymore, who can blame you? But it's diturbing for 2 reasons. One, of course, you won't be around to share knowlage or witts with. Two, the "teenage mutant ninja turt-head" wins another round.

Hold short of the runway,Mike! How about fishingworks? I noticed your e-mail link, links there....The site was down for two or three days, and it didn't look good. I haven't asked the sysop what happened, but am starting to put things together in my head.... Perhaps that is the bum link?

Another reason not to publish your email is the risc of getting it out among those who spams you down or send you 'irresistible' offers.

Those who do not use firewall & agressive antivirus checking will get their internet use analysed by others and suffer froom it somehow.

Every time you surf, you leave tracks telling about yourself. It's just a thing most people do not now.

Re: Virus Attempt

How much more spam can I get???? Actually with Hotmail Junk mail filter and Mcaffes I feel prety secure. In fact any virus has ended up denied by hotmail and in my junk folder anyway. I figure I leave enough footprints whoever wants to can find me anyway. I have survived being virused once and it only took reformating and starting from scratch. Since I know how to do it now doing it agian should not be a problem (if there is a next time).

Re: Virus Attempt

I am not leaving just deleting the link.
No damage to me. I run a firewall on my home server and scan all mail before opening it.
I never open .exe, .bat or .pif files received in email even if they do scan ok.
2 of the sender names used were from this board but that can be doctored using anonymous isp relays, and I, in no way, suspect that the emails came from the real user of those names.
I have been corrupted by 1 virus in the 15+ years of my computer experience and that was about 5 years ago.
Most viruses written are easily detected and removed without having to format once you know what types of files to look for and where. Regular system back-ups can usually keep you from having to do a full reinstall.
It is just a pain in the a** and a waste of time.

Re: Virus Attempt

It's a common occurance. I tightened up my firewalls as a result of a virus invasion last year. The virus was a fine one that re-sent itself out to everyone in my address book and I was frantic to stop it.

I don't open any FWD or attachments. My virus scanners do get a good workout.

Bob
