My wonderful wife and I are vacationing in Aruba May 20-24. She earned the trips through her company and all meals/lodging/air fare is paid for. :D

Can any of my friends here give this Kansas hick whose never been outside the states some advice or suggestions?

I would like to try deep sea fishing, parasailing and snorkeling. The fishing boats I've found seem a bit pricey ($200-300 for a half day) Is this a fair fee?

Any advice will be appreciated and don't worry, I'll take plenty of pics.

WTG!!

Have fun. Ocean fishing is expensive, but how often do you get to go? If you don't want to take out a small loan, try surf fishing. Will they let you split the cost with other fisherpersons? Have fun.

Some of the best corrals in the world.Great grouper and barracuda fishing.Do not expect the island to look all that great. They were hit by some real nasty hurricanes these past few years. They do not speak spanish there. It is dutch or papiamento(local language)and English.

Buy the best waterproof sunscreen you can afford, and paste yourself down before you leave your room in the morning. (Buy a LOT) Re-apply after water activities. I got sunburned pretty good, the first time we hit the Carribean. By day three, I was looking like a goofy american lobster. I've lived by this advice every since ( and had much more enjoyable days later in the week - every since!) & BTW, you'll pay triple for the stuff down there.

Why should I give you any advice, you lucky buzzard.
Hope you get the worst sunburn of your life.

Now that my green envy monster has been fed, go for it. How often can you go salt water fishing? $200 to $300 is cheap. You'll kick yourself if you pass up this opportunity. Good luck and have fun!!!

Re: Viva Aruba!

Thanks for the nice comments y'all. Sunscreen will be applied often. Wow, I can't wait to see the ocean! A buddy lent me his snorkeling gear and I plan to put it to good use. I'm also going to give the ocean fishing a try.

SBN, If I were going on one of my secret missions, do you really think I'd have the wifey along? ;) :p jk

My wife & I went several years ago, we had a great time. The hotel provided free basic SCUBA lessons and provided the SCUBA gear, then for a small charge we went on a shallow (40 ft. deep)ocean dive at some World War 2 aircraft (with the instructor). I would not lug the SCUBA stuff from home.
Have a great vacation.

My daughter wisely chose to get married in Cancun, next month. I'm stocking up on sunscreen, and (now) saving up for a fishing day. I always thought it was overpriced, but you guys have convinced me otherwise!

I also love snorkeling.

LOL @ T2F... :D

Stay away from Carlos & Charlies.

Just be aware if any trouble should find it's way to you (And I pray NOT), the authorities down there are beyond incompitent. You'll be treated just like all other rich, white, honkies, only worse... You're an AMERICAN rich white honkie!

I'm surprised your wife's company could'nt find another Carribean island for the prize.

Kagee, Who is Carlos and Charlies??

Are they the shady looking characters offering to help me with my bags?

All kidding aside, I will be careful. I realize the world's view of Americans is not that cool.

Re: Viva Aruba!

Sorry FJ... did'nt mean to rain on your parade.

The authorities have handled Natalie Holloway's dissapearance like the Keystone Cops. Now they just want it to go away. I feel for her parents who have lost their daughter, and no one in our government or Aruba's give a flip. It's a crying shame and that's why I'm so negative on Aruba.

Y'alll have a great time. From what I've heard it's one of the warmest of the Carribean Islands.
Don't forget the passport... you need them now to get back in the US.
