I have a 12' inflatable boat. Nothing fancy, just a boat, one AGM battery and a Minn Kota 30 trolling motor. No stearing wheel or ignition key or anything. Just hook it up to the battery and go.

I built a custom battery box for the battery and the circuit breaker and I want to install a Volt Meter but dont know where to hook it to.

do i just splice it into the + wire of the battery? The - wire? egad, im dumb.

A volt meter measures voltage. It has two wires (plus and minus). Hook it to the corresponding posts on the battery. One caviat however -- unless you add a switch in the plus wire the voltmeter will be on all the time. No big deal but unnecessary.
