Re: volt meter/how to use

If you have a standard multi-meter it has the following capabilities.
A/C voltage reading
D/C voltage reading
D/C amp reading
OHMS resistance reading

There are different settings on meter depending on the voltage range and type you are reading.
There is also adjustable range for the ohms resistance.
For instance the .25 range in voltage measures voltage from zero to .25 volts
The 2.5 range from zero to 2.5 volts
the 10 range from zero to 10 volts and so on.
The ohm scale measures in either x 1 ,x 10, x100 and so on of the ohm scale reading.

Did you have an outboard question? :)

Hi, GeeGee.

What do want to measure? What type meter do you have (analog or digital)? Do you have the User Manual for the meter?

Let us know. "Using a multimeter correctly" is eight hours in the classroom, and presupposes that you understand basic electricity.

Let us know. :)

gee gee
You got some very good replies so I will just add a few things. Be carefull how you use your meter. If you set it to ohms or amps and hook it to a point with voltage can very easy burn up your meter. Not sure if your meter is digital or analog, but if it is not autoranging when mesuring voltage better to start with a high range and then turn lower until get a good reding. If it is analog when messureing voltage also need to make sure red lead is plugged into the + on the meter and the Black is ground or minus. Then always put you red lead on the more positive voltage and the black lead on the less postive voltage or ground. Have fun.

Hey gee gee, when you said above "I'll do anything to save a few bucks" I believe the "anything part" not too sure of the "saving" part. Where's my control box?
