Ok here it goes! I have a 82 90hpjohnson that was manual lift, took PTT off 78 115 and installed on 90hp! recently wired up fishfinder and noticed 17 volts @ 3/4 throttle! WOW! Read some threads that 15-16 is normal for unregulated! Took rectifier off old 115 voltage now @ 12.5! My question is
will the rectifier do any damage to the 90hp, I believe the 90hp is 6amp and the 115 I know is 10amp! Any help would be appreciated

12.5 isn't enough. I don't think it is charging at all now, is it? A fully charged regulated battery should be around 14.5 volts when running.

Re: Voltage Awry!!!!

Thanks F R!
I ran with the rectifier from my old 78 115 and the voltage never went above 12.6! So I reinstalled the original rectifier and got 16.5~16.9 @ 3/4 throttle, i tried running with lights and that seems to help but worried about backing the battery!
